Pwalugu (U/E), Nov 16, GNA – Mr Patrick Kwarteng Acheampong, the Inspector General of Police, has shed light on the Community Police Concept, a new system of policing, to be introduced in the country by the Police Administration early next year.
He said the Police Administration would soon conduct a special recruitment and training exercise for the Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions after which the trained personnel would be sent back to live within the communities rather than stay in barracks.
“With the exception of the combatant units who would still be confined to the barracks, the rest of the personnel would live with us and work in the communities,” said the IGP when he interacted with recruits and staff of the Police Training School at Pwalugu near Bolgatanga, as part of his tour of the Upper East Region. He said the community police concept was effective in the maintenance of law and order and particularly suitable for the successful implementation of special legislations such as the Domestic Violence Bill.
Mr Acheampong said the new concept called for a shared responsibility and closer collaboration between the police and the public.
