Engineering Council into offing

Accra, Nov. 15, GNA – The Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing is in the process of submitting to Cabinet for consideration the establishment of Engineering Council with the legal authority to deal with engineering infractions.

The establishment of the Council would be to instil professionalism in the building industry by the introduction of code of ethics to guide the behaviour of all actors in the building industry, Mr Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, Sector Minister, said on Tuesday when speaking at the weekly Meet-the-Press series in Accra.

Additionally, he said, the Public Works Department would be re-engineered to make it a self-financing entity. He said the present arrangement where the Department had to rely solely on Government for subvention for its operations would have to change.

The Department, he said, would have to generate enough funds through its operations to meet the running cost and working requirements.
