Teachers asked to tap ideas from students

Accra, Nov. 14, GNA – Mr Francis Dowetin, Executive Director of Datus Complex Schools, has observed that teachers must not only concentrate on what they had to teach their students but must also pay attention to ideas that their students had to offer concerning their educational development.

He said the development of the talents and skills of students should not be ignored in the zeal of teachers to ensure quality education.

Mr Dowetin made the observation at the Grand finale of the Datus Intellectual Pageant in Accra, at the weekend. He said these were some of the means of preparing students as future leaders and ensuring that their academic pursuit impacted positively on them.

Touching on the pageant, he said it was to help the contestants to unearth their talents and for character formation.

Out of 12 contestants from all the four branches of the school, Miss Sharon Tyron, a 14- year old Junior Secondary School (JSS) form three student from the Dansoman branch earned the crown of Miss Datus 2005. She received an Accra-London-Accra ticket, a Pentium three Personal Computer (PC) with flat screen worth 5.5 million cedis, cash prize of 200 pounds, books from Challenge Bookshop, Hampers worth 300,000 cedis, stationery and a crate of Pepsi Cola, as her prize.

The second runner up was Benedicta Okine; a 15- year- old JSS three student while the third runner up was Nana Ama Pokua Asomani, a 13- year old JSS three student.

For her prize, Benedicta received an Accra-South Africa-Accra ticket, a Pentium three PC worth 5.5 million cedis, 200 dollars, books from Challenge Bookshop, Hampers worth 300,000 cedis, stationery and a crate of Pepsi Cola.

Nana Ama received an Accra-Kenya-Accra ticket, a Pentium three computer worth 3.5 million cedis, cash prize of 150 dollars, books from Challenge Bookshop, hampers worth 300,000 cedis, stationery and a crate of Pepsi Cola.

The remaining nine contestants received scholarships and books from Challenge Bookshop, Stationery and hampers.
