Tema, Nov.14, GNA – Most taxi and “trotro” drivers who operate on Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) at Tema have parked their vehicles since Monday morning due to shortage of the commodity.
As a result gas filling stations within the township are experiencing long queues with anxious drivers waiting ‘to hear good news of getting some of the gas’ to enable them resume work.
However, hope came to drivers who had queued at the “Kaysens” Gas Filling Station near the Ghana National Petroleum Company (GNPC) as the first station to receive supply around 1200 hours. Some drivers interviewed explained that they had to convert from the use of petrol to gas because the 32,500 cedis per gallon of petrol were expensive as it affected their daily sales.
Dr Kofi Kodua Sarpong, Managing Director of Tema Oil Refinery told the Ghana News Agency, that the situation was a temporary measure because the pipe line that transferred LPG from the Residual Fluidised Catalytic Cracking (RFCC) plant to the loading gantry was shut down for repair work.
He said the staff would work for longer period to be able to fully supply the market and asked the public not to panic over the situation “because we have enough gas.”
