Common carrier jailed 12 months for assault

Sekondi, Nov.11, – GNA – Sekondi District Magistrate’s Court “A” on Friday sentenced Dan Ladi Ganda, a 28-year old common carrier to 12 months imprisonment in hard labour for assault. He pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Philip Obeng said at about midday on November 6 this year, the accused attacked Kasum Banse, the complainant, at the Takoradi Market Circle.

He said the complainant was having discussions with some friends when the accused came around and told a witness in the case that the complainant was a thief.

Sergeant Obeng said this resulted in a quarrel between the accused and the complainant and in the process, the accused person knocked down the complainant with a blow.

He said the accused then picked scissors and stabbed the left eye of the complainant and stamped on him.

Sergeant Obeng said the complainant became unconscious and people around revived him by pouring water on him. He said a report was made to the Police and accused person was arrested and charged with the offence after investigations.
