Winneba, Nov 10, GNA – Fifty primary schools in the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District of the Central Region were on Thursday presented with 23,423 exercise books to facilitate their teaching and learning activities at a ceremony at Winneba.
At the function, the University of Education, Winneba, the Students Representative Council, Awutu-Obrachire, Winneba and Senya-Beraku Secondary Schools were each given a set of 19-inch coloured Television set to accelerate their distance teaching programmes. Addressing Directors of Education, Institutional Heads and Circuit Officers who attended the ceremony, Mr Solomon Kwashie Abbam-Quaye, District Chief Executive for the area, underscored the importance of education and the commitment government attach to it.
Mr Abbam-Quaye assured Ghanaians that the NPP government would do all within its powers to implement educational policies it has initiated to improve the lot of the Ghanaian children. Mr Abbam-Quaye appealed to teachers in the District to renew their commitment to the goals and aspirations of the country’s education development.
He charged pupils and students of various basic schools in the District to take advantage of the facilities to intensify their studies for good results.
Mr Abbam-Quaye also reiterated the call on parents in the District to take advantage of the government’s Capitation Grant to enrol their children in schools to enable them benefit from the scheme. Ms Helena Arkoh, the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Director of Education, commended the government for its foresight and urged beneficiaries of the equipment to make good use of them to promote education in the District.
Ms. Arkoh described the DCE as a man of action, adding, “the swift manner with which the District Chief Executive mobilised resources within his reach to rehabilitate an old and deplorable government bungalow to house me when I took over the administration of the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) a couple of months ago, clearly demonstrates his deep commitment to national goals and aspirations.”
She expressed the hope that Mr Abbam-Quaye would maintain the high sense of nationalism and vision with which he was running the district to enable him to render more excellent service to people in the area. Mr J.K. Larbie, a Circuit Officer of the GES, announced that all basic schools in the District have received their share of the Capitation Grant and praised the government for it.
Mrs Cecilia Kwakye Cofie, Headmistress of the Winneba Secondary School, on behalf of the beneficiary institutions, thanked the government for the gesture and promised that they would utilise the equipment for the purpose for which they were intended. Nov. 10 05
