Teachers and students hail national award winner

Hohoe, Nov 08, GNA – Teachers and students of Saint Francis Demonstration Junior Secondary School at Hohoe on Monday paraded the streets of Hohoe with brass ban d music to honour a teacher of the school who won a national award. Madam Patience Peace Abiti emerged the first runner-up at the 2005 National Best Teacher Award and took home a Nissan Saloon car, a personal computer with accessories and five additional computers for her school.

President John Agyekum Kufuour presented the awards. Mr Michael Jackson Adamado of the Hohoe School for the Deaf also won a double door fridge and a computer in the non-teaching category. The jubilant group converged at the Hohoe District Assembly where the awards were presented to Mr John-Peter Amewu, the District Chief Executive, who said the event was a wake-up call for all stakeholders to gird their lions for hard work.

Mr Amewu said the government was striving to improve education and urged all and sundry to compliment the government’s efforts in achieving the goals of education.

He said the assembly, in collaboration with the District Directorate of Education, would soon organize a durbar in honor of the award winners. Mrs Christine Searyor, the Hohoe District Director of Education, said she was optimistic that this national achievement would spur other teachers on to rededicate themselves to work and uphold professional ethics to enable the district win more laurels in future.
