GBC gets acting Director General

The director of radio at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, Yaw Owusu Addo, has been named as the acting director general of the state broadcaster to replace beleaguered Director General, Eva Lokko who was asked to proceed on leave by the board of the state broadcaster.

The chairman of the National Media Commission (NMC) Wilson Atansah confirmed Mr. Yaw Owusu Addo?s appointment to Newsmen in Accra.

Mr. Yaw Owusu Addo is one of two managers in line to take over from Miss Lokko.

The other manager is GTV director, Kofi Bucknor.

Ms Lokko?s exit was preceded by worker agitations over a series of theft cases involving the withdrawal of monies running into billions of cedis from the corporation?s accounts.

The workers blamed Ms Lokko and her financial director, Kofi Kye, for the theft and called for their arrest and detention.

Although some workers interpret Ms Lokko?s forced leave as a dismissal the chairman of the media commission insisted that she was only taking her accumulated leave and would be back.
