Eastern Region PNC branch denounce Nkrumaist unity talks

Koforidua, Nov. 5, GNA – The Eastern Regional branch of the Peoples National Convention (PNC) has called on members and supporters of the party to stand firm and live up to the ideals of its late founder, Dr Hilla Limann, “even if it will take the party 100 years to come to power.” It denounced the “Nkrumaist unity talks”, saying that the “generality of most PNC sympathizers and objective observers in the country do not see anything good or positive that would come out from the so-call CPP/PNC unification.”

In a press release issued at Koforidua by the Regional Secretary, Mr Yakubu Salifu on Friday, he said the displeasure of many PNC members about the unity talks was manifested in the recent Odododiodio Constituency by-election in Accra in which “a majority of PNC members, out of annoyance, decided to vote for the NDC candidate to demonstrate that the unity talks cannot work.” “It is an open secret that some leading members of the party (PNC) have, in their own wisdom, found themselves in the predominantly NDC ‘Wahala’ demonstrations without the party’s mandate and have thus disintegrated the party as well as the cause of Nkrumaist unity”, the release stated.

The release, however, stated that there was no justification for any member of PNC to vote for an NDC candidate whose founder overthrew Dr Limann’s constitutional administration without any reason and denied him the status of a former Head of State.” It emphasized that the PNC had “a clear, consistent and enduring set of ideals and principles which must be used to win more supporters instead of banking hopes on the unification that can never work.” The release lamented that the basic problem facing the party was how to obtain funds to keep the structures at the grassroots level as the polling station and constituency offices have completely closed down and brought despondency among the ranks.
