Juaso (Ash), Nov 03, GNA – Dr Tanimola Akande, a World Health Organization (WHO) Consultant, has said lack of supervision was a major factor militating against the success of the National Polio Eradication Programme.
He said supervision was the surest way of ensuring effective and efficient immunization in the quest to have a polio-free nation. Dr Akande was speaking at a one-day workshop for supervisors, sub-district heads and disease control officers of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) at Juaso in the Asante-Akim South District on Tuesday. The District Health Administration, in collaboration with the district assembly, organized it.
He urged stakeholders involved in the polio eradication programme to work diligently to make Ghana a polio-free country. Dr Akande appealed to the Ministry of Health to provide volunteers with logistics to enable them to work satisfactorily. Mr Bernard Ofosu, the District Disease Control Officer, said about 27,280 children were expected to be immunized in the forthcoming exercise which will be undertaken from 11th to 13th November and from 9th to 11th December.
