Teachers tasked to lead in morality in society

New Edubiase (Ash), Nov 02, GNA – The Rev Fr Stephen Francis Ampoma, the Assistant Parish Priest of the Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church at New Edubiase, has appealed to teachers to lead the crusade for the promotion of morality in the society especially among the students they teach.

He said teachers should consider themselves as agents of morality since society viewed them as people with high standard of discipline due to their training.

Rev Fr Ampoma was speaking at a meeting of the New Edubiase branch of the Parish Association of Catholic Teachers (PACT) at the weekend.

He said some years past, teachers were looked upon as pacesetters in morality and discipline in the society but expressed regret that alcoholism, sexual harassment, indecent dressing and smoking among some teachers had tarnished the image of the profession. Rev Fr Ampoma advised the Catholic teachers to be actively involved in religious activities to bring Christ closer to the people in the communities to help curb indiscipline and other anti-social vices among the youth.
