New Office for Mine Workers Union inaugurated at Wassa Akyempim

Wassa Akyempim (W/R), Oct.28, GNA – A 75 million cedis office for the Local Mines Workers Union of Wexford Goldfields Limited (WGL) was inaugurated at Wassa Akyempim on Thursday.

Mr. Maxwell Nyarko, Branch Secretary pledged the commitment of the executives to protect the rights of workers and create healthy atmosphere for their operations.

Mr. Samuel Amponsah, Industrial Relations Officer of the Ghana Mine Workers Union said the Union should not be seen as an antagonistic force to management.

He said provision of the office showed the recognition and commitment of management co-exist with the union. Mr. Richard Gray, Managing Director and General Manager of the company, said the office would foster co-operation and unity between workers and management.

Mr Gray said the company had so far invested 65 million dollars in the mine and appealed to the workers to collaborate with the management for an efficient and effective operation. “We have the machinery, tools and logistics, it is up to us to make it work for our benefit,” he added. The Managing Director said a major problem facing the mine was low-grade ore, which demanded that the plant operated 24 hours.
