Schools urged to encourage home coming visits

Apam (C/R), Oct. 26, GNA – The chairman of Apam Secondary School Parent-Teachers-Association (PTA), Mr E. I. Addae has called on authorities of educational institutions to encourage “home coming” visits by old students to their schools.

Mr Addae said this would give the students the chance to share experiences with the old ones to enable them to aspire to reach or improve upon the heights attained by the past students. He was speaking on home coming visit planned by Apam Secondary School Old Students Association (ASSOSA) to the school on Saturday in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Apam.

He commended the headmaster, Mr Archibald Fuah and the executive of ASSOSA for initiating the programme and appealed to them to make it a regular affair.

Mr Addae stated that moral decadence in the society was on the increase, because the lifestyles of some people including parents in homes, institutions, workplaces and the communities in general, did not inspire the youth to see them as role models. “This has made the youth to take their own course, which often lead to waywardness”, he stated.

The PTA chairman said apart from affording the students, the opportunity to select their role models, the visit would make the old students to see the conditions of the facilities of their ‘alma mater’ to enable them contribute to their improvement.
