Court grants driver bail

Mankranso (Ash), Oct 20, GNA – The Mankranso magistrate court on Monday granted a 30-year-old driver five million cedis bail for failing to stop at a revenue checkpoint.

Kwasi Boadi pleaded guilty to the charge and will re-appear on November 1.

Police Inspector Abraham Agyei-Mensah told the court, presided over by Mr Frank Owusu-Afriyie that on September 10, this year, Boadi was driving his vehicle from Esienkyem to Kumasi. He said on reaching the revenue checkpoint at Asuadei in the Ahafo-Ano South district of Ashanti, he was signalled to stop but refused and sped away with foodstuffs and passengers, which were on the vehicle thereby depriving the district assembly of collecting revenue from the owners of the foodstuffs.

The prosecution said Mr Ebenezer Ofei, revenue collector in-charge of the Asuadei area therefore reported the case to the Mankranso police, who on September 26 spotted the driver at Mankranso and arrested him and after investigations charged him with the offence.
