Accra, Oct. 20, GNA – About 280 officers and men of the Ghana Police Service have left Accra for Darfur, Sudan, to secure peace, security and stability in the troubled region of the North-Eastern African country.
A statement from the German Embassy in Accra on Thursday said the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany was supporting the activities of the African Union (AU) in its endeavour to bring peace to the Region.
The contingent left Accra on a German Air Force Airbus A-310 from Accra to N’djamena, Chad from where there they would be airlifted with shuttle flights by Transall C-160 aircrafts to Darfur. The Ghanaian contingent would strengthen the civil component of the AU-Mission to Darfur.
