Asantehene urges traditional councils to establish education fund

Kumasi, Oct 17, GNA – Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has called on traditional councils to establish education fund to assist needy school children and provide school infrastructure for their communities. He said there were many deprived communities without school infrastructure for children while those with the infrastructure had no furniture or textbooks and stationery for the children. Otumfuo Osei Tutu made the call when executive members of Oguaaman Union paid a courtesy call on him at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi at the weekend.

The visit was to introduce the new executives and brief the Asantehene on the launching of Oguaaman Education Fund in Accra. The Asantehene advised traditional councils that had established education funds in their communities to sustain the fund by employing proper management practices.

He said citizens in the communities must be educated to contribute to the fund to ensure sustainability since donations from corporate bodies were not often regular.

The Asantehene said it was important to educate the youth to prevent them from engaging in social vices, which could affect the country’s development and advised executives of the union to always monitor the performance of beneficiary students.

Nana Brew-Butler, former Chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) who led the executive members said the association, formed about a year ago, was to sensitise the youth in Cape Coast to embrace education and prevent them from engaging in negative behaviour. Other members of the delegation were Miss Georgina Quaisie, Mr Robert Quansah, Mr Dick Nelson and Mr Bo Amissah.
