NDC consoles Pakistan

Accra, Oct 13, GNA – The National Democratic Congress on Thursday expressed its condolence to the people of Pakistan, especially families of the victims of the recent earthquake disaster.

The disaster, which hit that country last Saturday has killed thousands of people and left many more homeless, while properties worth millions of dollars were destroyed and thousands rendered homeless. A statement signed by Mr Bede A. Ziedeng, Acting General Secretary of the party appealed to the government of Ghana to offer some support as it did in the case of Hurricane Katrina, to the Pakistani victims. “The NDC considers such a gesture as even more urgent, considering the fact that Pakistan is a developing country and its citizens are more likely to suffer severe hardships,” the party said.

It noted that the earthquake was described as one of the most devastating disasters that had hit mankind this year, coming after the Tsunamis, the famine in Niger and Hurricane Katrina in the USA. The party also expressed gratitude to the international community for the support given to Pakistan so far and urged that more should be done to minimize the effects of the disaster on the victims.
