Donkorkrom (E/R), Oct. 10, GNA – The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) has distributed 607.1 million cedis worth of farming inputs to 3,000 maize farmers on credit basis to support the cultivation of about 45,000 acres of maize this minor season. The inputs, which would be repaid after harvesting of the crops, included the NPK Urea fertilizers, Round-up and Lasio weedicide, Karate insecticide and Obaantanpa seed maize.
The Afram Plains District Director of MOFA, Mr John Tsrakasu, disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Donkorkrom. He said the assistance to the farmers was part of the government’s efforts to increase maize production to forestall any possible maize shortage, which hit the country’s poultry industry at the begging of the year.
Mr Tsrakasu said Agriculture Extension Assistants in the district are assisting the farmers for effective application of the inputs to ensure good result. He advised the beneficiary farmers to pay up after harvesting their crops.
