Kwaebibirem supports Health Insurance with 140 million cedis

Kade (E/R), Oct. 8, GNA – The Kwaebibirem District Assembly has released 140 million cedis to support the District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme (DMHIS).

The amount will be used to pay for the hospital attendance cards for which every beneficiary of the scheme pays 5,000 cedis. The District Chief Executive, Mr. Yaw Yiadom-Boakye, who announced this at an Ordinary Meeting of the Assembly at Kade on Thursday said, a total of 41,496 persons have so far registered for the second year of the scheme, which went into effect this month.

He said the amount would give each beneficiary three hospital attendance cards on which personal details such as date of attendance, sickness reported and drugs dispensed would be recorded. The District Chief Executive explained that the Assembly decided to bear the cost of the cards in order to relieve beneficiaries of further financial burden, since they were not made aware that they have to pay 5,000 cedis for the cards until the last moment. He said, if any beneficiary had already paid for the cards, it should be refunded to him or her.

Mr. Yiadom-Boakye appealed to all residents of the district to embrace the health insurance scheme, which is meant to do away with the “cash-and-carry” at the health institutions and afford them medical treatment at very little cost.
