Accra, Oct 6, GNA – From next year placement under the new Computerised School Selection and Placement System would not include private schools though names of those schools on the placement register would not be scraped out, Mr Kwaku Nyamekye Aidoo, Head, National Examinations Administration Department of the West African Examination Council said on Thursday in Accra. He explained that the move was to avoid the complaints and disappointment parents have had with this year’s placement. Parents would have to seek admission for their wards in the private schools.
“I know the number of qualified candidates would out number the number of public schools currently available but we would not push any candidate into any private school even if a candidate does not make the score again under the computerised system.” Mr Aidoo was speaking at a day’s workshop to sensitise Directors of Education, School Managers and concerned parents in the Greater Accra Region on how CSSPS operates. He explained “we are not saying that private schools should not operate, they are to function but we would not place candidates again though they would be on the list of schools registered for placement purposes”.
Explaining the way the computerised system worked and to ensure accuracy and smooth placement next year, Mr Aidoo appealed to heads of schools to examine critically the registration form and to make sure they understood it and filled in all required information. Mr Asare Akuoko, Coordinator of CSSPs, said the centre and the GES were working to place candidates, who were still waiting to be placed. He said GES was still waiting for heads to declare any vacancies in their schools and that within next two weeks the problem over admissions would be solved. 6 Oct.05
