Parliamentarian calls for peace in Adansi North district

Fomena (Ash), Sept. 29, GNA – Mr Akwasi Afrifa, Member of Parliament for Fomena, has called for unity among the people within Adansi North district for the effective and efficient implementation of development projects initiated by the assembly. Mr Afrifa, who was addressing the ordinary meeting of the assembly at Fomena, said it was only when the people within the district lived in peace to support development projects initiated by the assembly that they could benefit from Government interventions designed to improve the living standard of Ghanaians.

He referred to an intended demonstration allegedly being planned by some people within the Akwansrem community and said, “We should give peace a chance”.

Mr Afrifa told the assembly that there was a laid down procedure in resolving conflicts or problems therefore, it was not appropriate for any community to resort to protests and demonstrations to disturb the peace needed for development. “Every conflict is solved through negotiations and dialogue therefore, as people living within the district, we should not fight among ourselves,” he added.

On education, Mr Afrifa appealed to parents to send their children to school to benefit from the Government’s Capitation grant that begun this academic year.

He called for unity, sense of purpose and commitment among the staff and assembly members, and asked: “You are the first seed of this new assembly, what mark are you leaving for posterity”. Mr Afrifa announced that discussions with the assembly towards the establishment of a community radio station would begin soon and pledged part of his share of the MP’s Common Fund towards the station. Mr Stephen Kwarteng, Presiding Member of the assembly, commended Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, Ashanti Regional Minister, for his pioneering role in the smooth take-off of the district. He pledged the assembly’s support to Mr Peter Kwabena Ameyaw, District Chief Executive, to ensure speedy development of the district. 29 Sept.05
