CPP activist to die for political reconciliation

Accra, Sept. 29, GNA- Mr Kwame Appiah Boateng, a member of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), on Thursday announced plans to embark on a hunger strike to draw international attention to the mounting political tension in Ghana.

Mr Boateng, Election 2004 Parliamentary Candidate for Nhyiaeso Constituency in Kumasi for the CPP was specific about the bad blood between President John Agyekum Kufuor and Former President Jerry John Rawlings.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Accra, he appealed to the diplomatic missions in Ghana to grant him what he called “symbolic political asylum” to embark on the strike anytime the two leading personalities were engage in public animosity again.

“It is a responsible strategic step to force the international community to join hands with Ghanaian traditional and religious community and political leaders to reconcile President John Agyekum Kufuor and Former President Jerry John Rawlings for the sake of unity and peace,” he said.

Mr Boateng lauded the efforts of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of Ho Asogli State and Osagyefo Ofori Panin Amoatia, Okyehene to keep the country united.

“It should be recalled that the Okyenhene…recently urged Ghanaians to stop politicians, who divide the country on ethnic lines and also to stop pretending that everything is alright in the country,” he said.
