New York University in Ghana inaugurated

Accra, Sept. 29, GNA – A concert to herald a formal inauguration of the New York University in Ghana was held in Accra on Thursday night. Dubbed: “Celebrating Highlife Music, Its Impact and Relevance”, the concert also formed part of a project of the University aimed at promoting and documenting African historical background and it essence in modern times.

Professor Awam Amkpa, Academic Director of the University, said highlife music was played throughout the occasion because it was of great significance to the country’s heritage.

He said it was important for African countries not to ignore those aspects of their history that reflected their rich heritage. The New York University in Ghana is part of the University’s programme to enable its students to study in other countries. Ghana is the first African country where the University is having its study abroad programme.

The University partners Ashesi University and the University of Ghana.
