FOSDA presents seedlings of fruit trees to schools in Northern Region

Tamale, Sept 25, GNA – The Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA), a non-governmental organisation, has presented 100 grafted mango seedlings to five schools in the Northern Region. The NGO also gave the beneficiary schools, which include the Northern School of Business (NBISCO), Saint Charles Secondary School, Yendi Secondary, Dagbon State Secondary/Technical school and Adibo primary/ JSS, 10 cutlasses, two watering cans, four spades and one wheelbarrow each.

Mr Rashid Yakubu, the Programme Coordinator of FOSDA, made the presentation when he inaugurated the “Youth Action for Peace and Development” clubs at separate ceremonies in the various schools. He said if the seedlings matured into trees it could among other things provide supplementary income for the schools, inculcate the culture of tree planting in the students and help with income to support their education.

Mrs Doris Ziehe and her husband, Klaus, both German volunteers, shared their experiences with the students and told them about the bitter experiences of the Second World War.

”Communication and negotiation are the best means of solving problems and misunderstanding between people.”

They said countries and communities would live in peace and with one another if they have mutual understanding and do things in common by helping each other.

“Weapons have never solved problems but rather created more problems and the weapons of World War 1 shot their way to World War 11”, Mr Klaus said. He said those who profit from war were the producers of arms.
