Standards Board urged to check sub-standard hair products

Agona Swedru, Sept 25, GNA – Mrs Joyce Lamptey, Vice Chair Person of the Ghana National Beauticians and Hairdressers Association (NABH), has called on the Ghana Standard Board (GSB) to check substandard hair products on the market.

She said the Association was prepared to co-operate with the Board, which have the expertise to eliminate such products from the market. Speaking at the inauguration of the Central Regional branch of the Association at Agona Swedru on Thursday, Mrs Lamptey urged manufacturers of hair products to team up with the Association to ensure that the situation was reversed.

Mrs Lamptey pointed out that such substandard hair products damaged the hair of their patrons and said some of them did not even have expiring dates, manufacturer’s numbers and other important markings on them.

She called on District Assemblies to ensure that hairdressers did not work in “rickety kiosks” situated in the centre of towns and cites. Mrs Lampety said they should also ensure that hairdressers had professional certificates to eliminate fake ones from operating. Mr Jonas Ansah, General Secretary of the Association, urged members against practices that could drag the good image of the Association into the mud.

He called on them to be disciplined, which he said was vital for development and said they should join the crusade against indiscipline in their communities.

Mrs Margaret Brown, Central Regional Chair person of the Association, urged the members to ensure sanity and hygienic surroundings in the areas they operated to attract more customers. She appealed to the members to honour their taxes and other obligations to the district assemblies to promote peace and stability and to promote development.
