District Premix Committee to monitor sale of fuel

Saltpond (C/R), Sept. 25, GNA – Premix Committees are to be formed in all the districts to monitor the sale of the fuel in fishing communities.

Alhaji Mustapha Mohammed, Central Regional Premix Co-ordinator who announced this at Saltpond said District Chief Executives would chair the committees to check irregularities in the supply of the fuel to fishermen.

Speaking at a meeting with Chief Fishermen and their secretaries from the Mfantseman District at Saltpond, cautioned against cheating in the distribution of the fuel since it had been subsidised by the government.

He cautioned Tanker Drivers against short delivery to the distribution outlets and said that such deals would no longer pass undetected.

The Co-ordinator advised outlet managements to allow time for the fuel in the tanker to settle before measurement were taken during delivery and advised DCEs to recommend additional ones to be opened if there was the need for.

Alhaji Mohammed attributed delays in the supply of the fuel to the inability of some management outlets to pay for their supplies in time and said co-operative societies were not permitted in the sale of the fuel.

The Co-ordinator cautioned against hoarding and advised the fishermen to desist from panic buying since there was enough stock to meet their demands.

Mr Robert Quainoo-Arthur, District Chief Executive, assured fishermen that the government would do everything to promote their work and announced that the government was supplying inputs including outboard motors and nets to fishermen on credit and appealed to those who would benefit not to abuse the offer.
