Chief donates books to three schools

Kumasi, Sept 24, GNA – Nana Owusu Annor Panin III, Kyirapatrehene on Friday donated 1,800 exercise books to three schools at a ceremony at Kyirapatre in the Kumasi metropolis.

The schools are Kyirapatre Catholic primary and M/A Junior Secondary Schoo (JSS), which received 1,400 exercise books and Presbyterian Senior Secondary School, which had 400 exercise books and 250 library books.

Mr. Stowart Bonney, publisher of the Northumberland Magazine in the United Kingdom (UK), who is also the Nkosuohene of Kyirapatre, donated the library books.

Nana Owusu Annor Panin called on the students to take their studies seriously so that the huge investment being made by their parents and government would not go waste.

He commended the government for implementing the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE) programme which aims at making every child of school-going age attend school and urged parents to take advantage of the fee-free policy and retain their children in school. Madam Agnes Adu-Boahen, headmistress of Kyirapatre Catholic primary school, on behalf of the schools thanked the chief for the gesture. She called for close collaboration between opinion leaders in communities, parents and teachers to help improve education standards in the community and the country as a whole. Sept. 24 05
