Cape Coast, Sept 23, GNA – The Oguaa Traditional Council has decided to rehabilitate the ‘Gothic House’ an ancient building that housed Mr Jacob Wilson Sey, Founder of the Aborigines Rights Protection Agency in the 1890’s into a multi modern palace next year.
Nana Kwesi Atta II, Paramount Chief of Oguaa Traditional Area announced this when inaugurating a 26-member Implementation Committee at Cape Coast.
He said the decision was taken to help restore and preserve the ‘Gothic House’ to its historical importance. The one million-dollar project would be in three phases and made up of a palace, a reception, offices, places of convenience and a museum.
The first phase involves rehabilitating the main house into a palace for the Paramount Chief, the second and third phases would involve restoration of the wings into an exhibition hall on the history of Cape Coast and Gold Coast and the courtyard to serve as an arena for durbars.
Nana Atta appealed to the Committee to adopt innovative measures to source funds and ensure the work was completed on schedule. The members pledged to work hard to establish a befitting palace and a museum for Cape Coast, they called on well-meaning citizens of the area to contribute towards it.
