UoG committed to fair hearing – Authorities

Accra, Sept. 21, GNA – The University of Ghana has assured the public that the Authorities are committed to ensuring that all those implicated in the alleged examination malpractice during the First Semester Examination of the 2004/2005 academic year are given a fair hearing.

“The University would want to assure the public that its internal mechanisms are adequate to deal with the issues at hand,” an official statement from the Public Affairs Directorate said on Wednesday. The statement said the Authorities were following closely the work of the Disciplinary Boards/Committees that were set up and were expecting that all the outstanding reports would be submitted soon. Following the submission of the Mfodwo Committee Report, the Council of the University at its meeting decided that the Vice-Chancellor should step aside until the Committees set up to deal with disciplinary issues raised by the Committee had submitted their reports, and their recommendations ratified by Council for appropriate action.

It would also ensure that every effort was made to facilitate the work of the Disciplinary Committees so that they could conclude their assignments in the shortest possible time, it said “The University wishes to assure all concerned that, however, long the processes may seem, it is committed to ensuring that all those implicated are given a fair hearing,” the statement said.
