Agona District GES receives 480.6 million cedis capitation grant

Agona Swedru, Sept 20, GNA – The Agona District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has received 480.6 million cedis as party of its capitation grant for Primary and Junior Secondary schools (JSS). The amount is for 67 Pre-schools, 130 Primary and 104 JSS in the district.

Mr Dowuona Hammond, District Director of Education announced this when he addressed a two-day meeting for Primary and JSS Head teachers on the management of the grant at Agona-Swedru in the Central Region. He said the grant was to improve access of children to school, purchase teaching and learning materials and management of schools.

Mr Hammond asked the head-teachers to effectively plan the utilisation of the grant with the teachers for the benefit of the pupils and warned them of disciplinary action against those who would misapply the grant and collect illegal fees from parents and guardians. However, he said the grant did not cover payment of the 120,000 cedis Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) registration fees out of which the Government paid 80,000 cedis and parents pay 40,000 cedis.

Mr Hammond advised the head-teachers to live up to expectation because there would be increase in school admissions and facilities.
