Reconstituted board for CEDECOM inaugurated

Cape Coast, Sept. 14, GNA – A 16-member reconstituted Board of Directors of the Central Region Development Commission (CEDECOM), was inaugurated on Wednesday.

Mr Isaac Edumadze, Central Regional Minister and Chairman of the Board called on members to explore potentials in the region to accelerate its socio-economic development.

He said they had been appointed at a time the region was ranked among the poorest in the country therefore, they should be committed to the task ahead and evolve strategies that could ensure employment creation, private sector development, human resource development and good governance to reduce poverty.

Mr Edumadze said the region, dubbed the ‘heartbeat’ of Ghana’s tourism also abounds in vast forests and savanna lands, to support cash crop production as well as the sea for salt winning and fishing. He appealed to chiefs to ensure easy acquisition of land for investment and help ensure resolution of chieftaincy and other disputes that had impeded development in the region.

Mrs Nancy Thompson, a member of the Board gave the assurance that they would work to justify the trust reposed in them, strive to reduce the region’s poverty level and promote its socio-economic development. Mr Justice Kodwo Kwei Acquaye, Central Region Supervising High Court Judge, swore the board members made up of educationists, legal practitioners, administrators, planners, clergy and traditional rulers into office.

CEDECOM was established in 1992, to spearhead an integrated development of the region, to raise income levels within existing production sectors, and also create employment and income generating opportunities needed to improve the general standards of living.
