Inchaban (W/R) Sept. 11, -GNA-Mrs Irene M. N. Ofosu-Behome, National Chairperson of the Methodist Youth Fellowship (MYF) has called on the youth to stop patronising pornographic books, newspapers and sexually inclined films and songs.
She said, while such materials were affecting the moral and ethical development of the youth, the authors of such items were making huge gains to the detriment of society.
Mrs. Behome made the call at the opening of the 19th Biennial delegates conference of the MYF at Inchaban near Sekondi on Saturday. It was on the theme: “Witnessing our faith to bear fruits.” She said many youths presently copy and dress in provocative, transparent attire, irrespective of the environment in which they are. “Some of these dresses are even brought to the church without any hesitation,” she added.
Mrs Behome stressed that unless the youth of today decided to reject such acts, generations after them could live other demeaning lifestyles. She appealed to the youth to serve as role models for others within their community.
The Most Rev. Robert Aboagye-Mensah, Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, in an address said the church must double its witnessing activities and called on the youth to assist in achieving such targets. He asked them to allow the Holy Spirit to lead, direct and equip them to serve faithfully in their various communities. The Right Rev. John Harvey-Ewusi, Bishop of the Sekondi Diocese of the Methodist Church said the youth must use their talents to serve the people.
He said the community, church and nation as a whole, needed resourceful youth to take up leadership and offer alternative ideas for growth. Rev. Harvey-Ewusi therefore, asked the youth to use their talents wisely and avoid acts that could ruin their future.
