Highways Authority urged to maintain Mankessim road

Mankessim (CR), Sept. 9, GNA – Mr Felix Nyarko Antwi, Mankessim Ward Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has appealed to Parliament to pass a law banning drivers involved in accidents leading to the death of passengers from driving for a period. Speaking to the GNA in an interview at Mankessim, Mr Antwi said such legislation would compel drivers to be more careful on the roads. He also called for the installation of equipment to check speeding by drivers on the highways.

The Central Regional Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Mr Robert Eshun, appealed to the Ghana Highways Authority to patch potholes on the Gomoa Ankamu-Biriwa road. He said that even though the road was to be reconstructed, there was the need to maintain the rough sections to avoid accidents. Mr Eshun said recently two vehicles in an attempt to avoid potholes were involved in a head-on collision.

He deplored the numerous wreckages of accident vehicles abandoned by the sides of the road and appealed to the owners to remove them to avoid more accidents.

The GPRTU Chairman appealed to the Ghana Standard Board to check lorry tyres imported into the country as some were made for the winter season and were unsuitable for the tropics.
