Ashanti Region CSA studying possibility of housing its members

Juaso(Ash), Sept. 8, GNA – The Ashanti region branch of the Civil Servants Association (CSA) is studying a plan geared towards a housing project for its members.

Under the plan, the association hopes to construct about 100 houses in five years to house about 3,000 members. The plan designed to enable members own their own houses will be funded through contributions of members into a special fund to be set up soon.

Mr Kwame Asamoah Dwomoh, Ashanti regional Chairman of the association, disclosed this at a meeting of the Asante-Akim South district branch of the association during the election of officers at Juaso on Wednesday. He said negotiations for the release of an 800-acre land at Kronom-Afrancho near Kumasi for the proposed project was almost completed.

Mr Dwomoh said in order to make the project cost effective, the association was fashioning out measures to tap the expertise of its members to facilitate the project.

He said the project would begin with the provision of site services like water, electricity and access road before the commencement of the buildings and added that only members who contributed to the fund would benefit from the project and this would also depend on the quantum of a member’s contribution.

Dr Lord Justice Gyamfi-Fenteng, Asante-Akim South District Chief Executive, lauded the vision of the association and urged members to embrace it since it was worth patronising.

He called on civil servants in the district to actively participate in the activities of the association as a unified force and advised the newly elected officers to work hard and desist from lording it over the members.

Mr Simon Kofi Adipo was elected Chairman.
