Awutu Mankessim (CR), Sept. 7, GNA – The Ankobiahene of the Awutu Traditional Area and chief of Awutu Mankessim, Nai Kwao Otuo V, has expressed his full support for the call on the government to initiate training programmes for chiefs on issues bordering on the chieftaincy institution.
Speaking at a meeting with members of Ankobia Royal Family at Awutu Mankessim as part of their annual Akomasi Festival, Nai Otuo said the suggestion is an excellent one which must be given serious attention to enhance the functions of chiefs.
He said when chiefs were offered regular intensive training on the content in chieftaincy act and other relevant subject, it will go a long way to eliminate unnecessary chieftaincy dispute and land litigations which had drastically impeded the progress of various towns and villages in many traditional areas.
Nai Otuo attributed the increasing chieftaincy and land problems, which had virtually engulfed various stools in the country to lack of knowledge about the chieftaincy act and functions of traditional rulers. He said the proposed training had come at the right time and government must grab the idea jointly with the various Regional Houses of Chiefs for immediate consideration and implementation.
