Traditional Birth Attendants undergo training

Sefwi-Bekwai (W/R), Sept 6, GNA – About 20 Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) drawn from five health sub-districts in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai district have attended a two-week training programme in antenatal care, delivery, post-natal care, infection prevention, family planning and health education.

The training programme jointly organised by the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Ghana Health Service(GHS) was sponsored by UNICEF. Miss Doris Lartey, Principal Nursing Officer in-charge of the district, advised TBAs to adhere strictly to what they learnt.

She urged them to refer cases beyond their capabilities to the nearest health facility promptly for attention and not turn themselves into medical officers.

Dr Francis Boakye Takyi, District Director of Health Services, advised TBAs to encourage their clients to attend clinics regularly during pregnancy for specialist care.

He appealed to the communities to show appreciation to TBAs by assisting them.
