Accra, Sept 5, GNA – The Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Monday donated assorted items worth 16.5 million Cedis to help solve the food crisis in Niger.
The items were made of 30 bags of rice, 20 cartons of cooking oil and 10 cartons of Tuna flakes.
Mr. Wilson A. Krofa, First Vice President, making the presentation, said the Chamber felt obliged as a member of Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to help a sister nation in such a condition and foster relations between Ghana and Niger. He said trade relations among member states was very crucial therefore, the need to support Niger to continue trade within the Sub-Region.
Mr Hassane Ali Toure, Nigerien Ambassador in Ghana who received the items, expressed gratitude to the Government and Ghanaians for their solidarity to alleviate member countries of the ECOWAS from hardship. He commended the Chamber for the gesture, adding: “In globalisation any situation in one country will affect others”.
Mr David Addo, Head of Administration and Finance at the Chamber, appealed to other individuals, institutions and organizations to also assist improve conditions in Niger.
