Mine workers call off strike

Accra, Sept 1, GNA – Employees of Gold Fields Ghana (GFG) Tarkwa Mine have called off their two-day strike action following an amicable settlement between the Management and Staff.

The employees embarked on the strike action on Sunday August 28 and Monday August 29 in protest against profit-sharing payment that had been duly negotiated and agreed upon between the Management and the Ghana Mineworkers Union, including Union representatives from both the Tarkwa and Damang operations.

A statement issued on Thursday from the Public Affairs and Social Development of Gold Field Ghana said the striking employees have accordingly returned to work since Tuesday, August 30.

The Management commended all those who helped to bring the impasse to an end, particularly, the Western Regional Minister, Mr Joseph Boahen Aidoo for his leadership and prompt intervention.
