Bank Of Ghana Arrests GES Official

The Bank of Ghana has arrested a Senior Clerk of the Technical Examination Unit of the Ghana Education Service (GES) for criminally altering a cheque.

Mr. Stephen Dadzie, who was to cash twenty million cedis (?20,000,000.00) from the Bank, altered the cheque with number 618680 to read twenty-six million cedis (?26,000,000.00).

On August 24, 2005, Mr. Dadzie presented the cheque at the banking hall following which the falsification was detected. The Bank of Ghana in its investigations contacted the Accountant of the Technical Unit of GES who confirmed that the amount on cheque 618680 was supposed to be twenty million cedis (?20,000,000.00).

During interrogation by the Security Department of the Bank of Ghana, Mr. Dadzie admitted falsifying the cheque and has been handed over to the James Town Police for further action.
