Porter, four others remanded for stealing

Accra, Aug. 22, GNA – An Accra Circuit Court on Monday remanded a porter and four accomplices into three weeks Police custody for stealing 8,000 dollars from a trader.

Mary Fuseini pleaded guilty for stealing while Alhassan Mohammed, Baba Mumuni, Alhassan Adams Boniface and Nantomah Charles pleaded not guilty to dishonestly receiving. They would reappear on September 9.

The Prosecution told the Court that in April 2005, Fuseini stole the money, which Mr Young Effah, had kept in his store at the Makola Market and gave it to her boyfriend, Mohammed, a scrap dealer, for safekeeping. She denied any wrong doing when she was arrested. She was released on Police enquiry bail but she was rearrested when her boyfriend implicated her. The Prosecution said Alhassan confessed that he in turn gave the money to his master, Mumuni.

Mumuni was arrested and three million cedis was retrieved from him. Boniface and Nantomah, both students, were also arrested for impersonating as Police officers and extorting 15 million cedis from Alhassan. 22 Aug. 05
