Safety of stomach flattening soap cannot be guaranteed –

Accra, Aug. 22, GNA – The Food and Drugs Board (FDB) on Monday cautioned the public not to patronise an unnamed product being peddled to flatten the stomach, saying its safety and efficacy could not be guaranteed.

A statement signed by Mr E.K. Agyarko, Chief Executive Officer of the Board, said the soap, which is white, is packed in a blue paper box with a yellow crown-like logo and the picture of a stomach circled with a white line.

“The Board wishes to inform the general public that the product has not been registered and the Board, therefore, cannot guarantee its quality and efficacy, since all the labelling information on the package is in Chinese and there is no leaflet insert to give directions for use. “Products sold in Ghana must be labelled in English alongside any other language used.”

It asked the public to notify the FDB whenever they found the product on the market.

It cautioned outlets, which had stocks of the product, to withdraw it and send it to the FDB or the suppliers.
