Forum calls on parents to spend more on child education

Asantanso (B/A), Aug. 21, GNA – The Assemblyman of Baamiri electoral area of the Techiman Municipal Assembly, Mr. John Kwasi Kwao has re-echoed the need for parents to minimize their huge expenses on frivolous things such as funerals, drinking, expensive clothing and other luxuries and invest the resources in the education of their wards. Mr. Kwao was addressing the chiefs and people of Asantanso in his electorate at a forum they organised to plan development programmes for the area to enable them improve upon their living standards. Mr. Kwao deplored the negative practices and attitudes of some parents who shirk their responsibilities of their children and wards, thereby allowing such children to be in the streets and involve themselves in social vices.

He therefore, stressed the need for the people to offer the necessary support for the education and upbringing of their wards in order that they would grow to become responsible citizens to serve the state.

The Assemblyman was grateful to the government for providing boreholes for seven communities in his electorate to save the people from contracting water borne diseases.

They are Pemhoyesu, Akrufi, Atabooso Number One and Two, Nyarkokrom, Kwasibourkrom and Woraso.

He paid a special tribute to the former Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Isaac Osei-Antwi for ensuring the provision of a three-classroom block for their local Junior Secondary School. The unit committee chairman, Mr. George Baiden announced that the community is contributing 20,000 cedis each towards the local Kindergarten.

Mr. Baiden called on the Municipal Assembly to provide them with 60 bags of cement to supplement their efforts on the project. Nana Kwasi Nyarko, Chief of the area, who presided gave an assurance to release some funds from the proceeds of his stool lands to support the project to ensure its successful completion. Aug. 21 05
