BSG goes on anniversary float

Accra, August 20 GNA – The Bible Society of Ghana (BSG) on Saturday went on a float dubbed ” Mary Jones Walk” as part of the 40th anniversary celebration of the society that falls in September. Starting from Mantse Agbonaa, James Town, the three-hour float went through some of the main streets of Accra and stopped at the Freedom and Justice Park, Kwame Nkrumah Circle, where it was joined by another float from Madina.

The float was also to honour Mary Jones whose love for the Bible led to the establishment of the Bible Society worldwide. Some of the groups that took part in the float was from the Methodist, Anglican, Presbyterian, Global Evangelical, Evangelical Presbyterian churches and some charismatic churches. Reverend Kofi Owusu, General Secretary of the BSG, said the float was to draw the public’s support for God’s work.

”The Bible Society seeks to make God’s word available and affordable to individuals and organisations that need them.” Rev Owusu said it takes 10 to 20 years to translate the Bible from Aramaic to one local language and ”this is quite daunting.” He said the Bible has been translated into seven local languages including Ga, Asante Twi, Ewe and Dagbani while the New Testament has also been translated to three local languages. Rev Owusu urged the youth to be determined as to what to do in future rather than thinking about how to make quick money.
