Court fines three persons for stealing

Kumasi, Aug 17, GNA – A Kumasi circuit court has fined three persons, a security man and two shoe makers a total of six million cedis for stealing and dishonestly receiving.

Kwaku Adjei, the security man and first accused, was fined four million cedis while David Kofi Asenso and Charles Owusu, both shoe makers, were fined one million cedis each.

They pleaded guilty and will serve three years and one-year jail sentences in hard labour in default.

Police Chief Inspector Janet Oseiwaah told the court that the first accused was a security man at the A-Life guesthouse opposite the wholesale of Mr P.Y. Bawuah, the complainant, who deals in leather and bond glue.

She said Adjei had been helping the complainant to convey his products to his customers and his retail shop at the Roman Hill for the past four years.

Adjei took advantage of this relationship and in June entered the wholesale and made away with quantities of leather and gallons of glue and sold them.

She said the complainant reported the theft to the police who arrested Adjei.

The court warned Adjei to be of good behaviour but he broke into the wholesale again and stole 19 gallons of glue worth 1.2 million cedis.

The accused sold them to Asenso at 40,000 cedis each instead of the normal price of 70,000 cedis and he in turn sold 15 out of the 19 gallons to Owusu at 55,000 cedis a gallon.
