Cape Coast, Aug. 17, GNA – A 25-year-old farmer from Ayensudo, near Elmina was on Wednesday sentenced to two years in jail by a circuit court at Cape Coast for threatening to kill his brother-in-law with a knife.
Eric Essuman pleaded guilty to threatening Mr Kwasi Badu with death and was convicted on his own plea.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Augustine Amonoo told the court, presided over by Mr Mustapha Logoh, that both Mr Badu and Essuman lived at Ayensudo.
He said on August 12 this year, at about 1500 hours, Badu returned home from his farm and was collecting pepper he had dried on the ground when Essuman suddenly appeared with a knife and without any provocation threatened to kill him.
Inspector Amonoo said a struggle ensued between them and in the process Essuman pushed down Badu and was about to stab him when a passer-by rescued Badu and took the knife from the convict. The matter was later reported to the police and he was arrested prosecution said.
In passing Sentencing, the judge said there were a lot of violent cases prevailing in the society and that it was necessary to put away people like Essuman from society and that the two years jail sentence was to serve as a deterrent to others.
