Bolga poly suspends 2005-06 HND Programmes

Bolgatanga, Aug 17, GNA – The Bolgatanga Polytechnic will not run Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes in the 2005/2006 academic year, its Acting Principal has said.

Programmes normally run by the Institution include HND Statistics, Diploma in Business Studies (DBS), Marketing and Accounting. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Bolgatanga on Monday, the Acting Principal, Mr. Richard Cantey, said during a recent assessment of the Polytechnic’s status, the National Council of Tertiary Education (NCTE) found out that it lacked certain basic elements that would enable it to run HND programmes satisfactorily.

“The Polytechnic has not yet got the requisite academic facilities such as standard lecture halls, enough qualified lecturers, and staff accommodation, among others, to merit it to run such programmes”, Mr Cantey said.

According to the Acting Principal, the first and second year students who were already taking the HND programme would be allowed to complete after which the necessary facilities would have to be put in place before the institution would resume any further admissions for the course. He appealed to NGOs and philanthropist to come to the aid of the Bolgatanga Polytechnic.
