COP women’s movement hold exhibition

Kumasi, Aug. 16, GNA – The Asokwa Area Women’s Movement of the Church of Pentecost (COP) has held a grand exhibition of locally made textiles, beadwork and dishes from Ghanaian staples.

The exhibition was aimed among others to showcase skills the women have been taught over the years at their various meetings held on every Tuesdays, in addition to the study of God’s word.

Mrs Theresa Moses, Area Secretary of the movement, who spoke to the white collar jobs, are gainfully employed by engaging in small-scale productive ventures to supplement home income.

She said whiles inculcating the fear of God in the women, the church believes it is also essential to encourage those, who do not have any formal jobs to venture into income generation in their own small ways to complement the efforts of their spouses.

Mrs Moses also maintained that the church also believes in nurturing the innate potentials of women, as home managers and has therefore adopted a holistic approach to harness such potentials to enable the women be adept, both in training their children to be God-fearing and to be useful citizens in future. Mrs Gifty Aboagye, President of the movement for the Asokwa area, said the exhibition is also an opportunity to create market avenues for the church’s women in small-scale production, while also attracting the jobless young women in the church to offer themselves for apprenticeship in the various trades, the products of which were displayed at the exhibition.

On display were various kinds of batik, tie and dye, ladies’ clothes, all kinds of ladies’ garments, such as hand bags, wedding costumes, night wear, perfumery and cosmetics. Others were assorted locally make drinks and a variety of dishes made from Ghanaian staple foods.
