Lecturer builds library for community

Pekyerekye (Ash), Aug 16, GNA – A 200-million-cedi library, built for the Pekyerekye community in the Asante-Akim North District of Ashanti was at the weekend inaugurated.

Mrs Christiana Plaha, Head of Home Science Department, University of Ghana, Legon and the Nkosuohemaa of the town, as her contribution towards the development of education, funded the facility.

Speaking at the inauguration of the library, Mrs Plaha charged well-meaning Ghanaians, especially all stakeholders in education to play their complementary roles in the promotion of education in the country. She said since it was the fervent wish of everybody to see tremendous improvement in the education sector, the least people could do was to play their roles to support government’s efforts in education. Mrs Plaha said she had plans to provide more facilities to the community, should they make very good use of the library and therefore urged parents to encourage their wards and children to patronise the facility.

Nana Oponu Kwagyan III, Chief of Pekyerekye, said the provision of the library was timely, since it had come at a time education in the area had sunk very low and therefore lauded the donor for the facility, adding that, she had justified her enstoolment as the Nkosuohemaa.
