People of Asuogyaman to determine their destiny

Akosombo (E/R), Aug. 15, GNA – Forum that would seek to create an avenue for the debate and collation of views for the development of the Asuogyaman District in the Eastern Region would take place soon. Mr Kofi Osei Ameyaw, the Member of Parliament for the area, said the people were surely tired of their circumstances where poverty, illiteracy and lack of certain basic amenities were hampering their development.

The member, who is a Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, told the GNA after inaugurating a 20-member planning committee, “my vision and their aspirations would form the basis of the interaction. I can no longer bear the depression and poverty in which the people live. “As a Member of Parliament I have a programme designed for the development of the District, but I will need inputs from the broad masses of the people, who gave me the mandate.”

He said the forum should be able to address the developmental agenda for the short, medium and long term.

“The role of the MP, the District Chief Executive (DCE), traditional rulers, community leaders and the youth would be spelt out to avoid conflicts, duplication and waste of time, energy and resources.”

The Planning Committee members were drawn from traditional councils, the youth, farmers, fishermen, women, District Assembly and other groups.

Mr Emmanuel Wellington Ntow Bediako, DCE, asked the Committee to work hard and to make the forum a reality.

“The time has come for the people of Asuogyman to think and act as one people determined to create an agenda for their own well being,” he said.
