Agona Abodom, C/R, Aug 14, GNA – Mr Samuel Kweku Obodai, MP for Agona West has expressed concern about the protracted chieftaincy dispute at Agona Abodom, which has thwarted the socio-economic advancement of the town.
He said the time had come for the Chiefs and the people of the area to settle the dispute amicably to promote unity and development. Mr Obodai was speaking at the climax of the Annual Akwambo Festival of the Chiefs and people of Agona Abodom on Saturday, called on the king makers to install a person to end long-standing dispute.
He pointed that the government would not interfere in chieftaincy matters as enshrined in the constitution to ensure peace and development and cautioned those fanning the dispute to desist from the practice, which was harming the town.
The MP stated that as a result of the dispute the government was going through difficulties to undertake projects and urged the Abodom Development Association members at Takoradi, Accra, Kumasi, Tema, Agona Swedru and Kasoa to assist in solving it.
The MP assured the people that a computer resource centre would be constructed, adding that, he would finance the project from his share of the common fund.
Mr Ato Herdricks, Managing Director Herdico Company and a citizen of the town donated 10 computers and accessories worth 20 million cedis to schools at the town while Mr Ransford Arthur, a staff of Ghana Education Service, who is also a citizen donated three boxes of assorted books to stock the Community Library. Nana Fii Kwao, Regent, added his voice to the call on the Kingmakers of Abodom to install a Chief to ensure the progress of the town.
